My favorite restaurant was Las Palmas below. It had beautiful decor and absolutely wonderful food. The waiters are also very nice. My waiter my first night asked my if I was in town learning Spanish and where I was from and what not, all in Spanish of course. :) Luckily I can fumble my way through that conversation! :) My meal was fresh veggies with pasta and a bottle of water for 89 quetzales ($12 US). And if you're ever in Antigua in most restaurants tip (propina) is included which is about 10% and when I asked my teacher if it was expected to tip above that 10% she said no.

So, walking around at lunch one day I see a couple of traditional dressed ladies selling food on the side of this church and since I see some locals buying food I thought I would go over there and see what they had! I'm not totally sure what I ended up with below but I did say no carne and that's what she gave me. It wasn't until I was nearing the center part that I realized I ONLY said no carne, not no carne, no pollo, no jambon, no pescado. So, I stopped eating at the perimeter which was lucky for me because I asked my teacher the next day and she was pretty shure there was jambon in it!

Another one of my favorite restaurants was Cafe Condessa. It was just off of the Parque Central in the back of a bookstore. It had a lot of soups, salads, quiches and desserts and the smoothies (with yogurt) are a MUST. My preference was for banano. :) Below is a lovely spinach quiche with fresh fruit and a drink which I had during a study lunch break for about 50 quetzales ($6.75 US).

Quesos and Vino is another great restaurant that was recommended to me by my teacher. It is in a lovely part of town and the restaurant itself was a lovely little garden area. This menu was all in Spanish but it wasn't too hard to figure out. I had a lovely mushroom (hongo) pasta and drink for about 77 quetzales ($10 US).

This was another tasty treat from Cafe Condessa. A cheese spread with toasted bread and my favorite, banana smoothie with yogurt.

Melody and I enjoying Cafe Condessa:

There was a Thai restaurant in town called Cafe Flor. The menu seemed more Asian fusion then Thai food alone. I got Pad Thai which was tasty but I started to wonder if there was some sort of fishy ingredient in it as something tasty funky to me near the end of me scarfing down the noodles. I spent 75 quetzales here with a drink which is about $10 US.

I ordered chips and guacamole and some sort of bread and queso at a place called Panchoy. It was pretty tasty for about 85 quetzales ($11 US). Thank goodness they took credit cards though because I spent ALL of my dinero shopping this day and didn't realize it until AFTER my bill came! That would have been embarrassing!

Some yummy cake and hot chocolate at Cafe Condessa as I wait out a little rainy spell.

Most of you should know this place. :) I would like to point out that I never ate there.

Alright, if you're ever in Antigua I HIGHLY recommend the bakery Dona Luisa! The pan de banano was DELICIOUS! For 24 quetzales ($3 US) I had me some yummy banana bread every morning.

Frida's was another one of my favorite restaurants that offered something a little more traditional (although not completely). My favorite thing there was the veggie burritos and if you get there early enough you can get two for one margaritas for happy hour!

This is basically a shish-ka-bob of chocolate dipped strawberries and yet again, was a tasty treat. I was wondering around during lunch hour when I saw a TON of school kids eating various versions of this and luckily came upon a lady selling them out of basically this hole in the wall. I think I paid around 5-10 quetzales which is less than $1 US.

Domino's delivers. :)

Another wonderful day in Antigua!
