Class Is In Session!

For the first week my teachers name was Marta. She was EXTREMELY nice and spoke to me in Spanish 99% of the time, in which I understood 20% of (if that). While Marta was one of the nicest people ever I didn't feel that I learned a whole lot from her. However, we did get to play Scrabble en Español, Boggle in Español and a new game called Basta.

One of the pinnacles of my first day was birthday cake!! Talk about the right place for me. No, it wasn't my birthday but another students birthday and we had yummy cake to celebrate. Me gusta!!!

During the day we had an hour and a half off for lunch which was great. I went to this great place called Sabe Rico which had a lot of vegetarian and organic fare. I got vegetarian lasagna with a drink for 41 quetzales ($5.50 US). I highly recommend Sabe Rico!

The school also has a pool and a tennis court, neither of which I used. :) The weather was pretty rainy most days but I did get to sit around the pool and read my Spanish version of Readers Digest (which I heard is supposed to be an easy read for a beginner)! My gorilla pod also came in handy for these shots!

There were two dogs at the school that I'm guessing belonged to the owner. They were VERY sweet but some what stinky due to the rain and the unfortunate wet dog smell! Tonka, below, liked to follow me into my room and sleep on my couch. :)
